Around 2 p.m on Thursday, April 21st, police and emergency medical services were called to Emmorton Road at Philadelphia Road in the Abingdon area after reports of a fatal vehicle accident. The investigation found that the driver of a tractor-trailer was headed north on Emmorton while a car and SUV were driving in the opposite direction. According to police and witnesses, the driver of the tractor trailer failed to stop at a red light and proceeded to turn onto Philadelphia Road, striking the car. The SUV swerved to avoid the crash, but the car struck the SUV before veering off the road.
Unfortunately, the driver of the car was taken to Chesapeake Medical Center, where he died. The other two drivers declined medical treatment. An investigation is still ongoing to determine the details of the accident.
What to Do if You’re Injured in an Accident
Catastrophic truck accidents are traumatizing and can lead to life-altering injuries, and even death. If you are injured in an accident, you must seek medical treatment as soon as possible. Some severe injuries, such as brain or spinal cord damage, are not identifiable right away. So, you should go to the hospital immediately. It is also essential to contact the police if they aren’t already on the scene. Law enforcement will write a police report and collect any relevant evidence. Evidence such as medical records, photos of the damage, and witness statements can help build a personal injury case.
